My oldest, Kate, has a budding new interest in the weather. She discovered my Weather HD app on my iPhone/iPad and now checks the weather daily, warning us with what she reads in the weather reports. This morning, as she was getting ready for school, she let us know there was going to be a thunderstorm, with a tone of thrill and excitement in her voice. Of course, the cynic in me wanted to tell here that there are thunderstorms every day in Singapore, a consequence of living in a tropical rainforest, but I kept it to myself. Instead, I just encouraged her interest, because weather IS pretty interesting. We glanced up at the clouds, noticed the swaying branches on the trees, and agreed that yes, indeed, a storm seemed to be brewing. Then she hopped on her bus, leaving me to ponder the weather on my own.
